Ablation retinae

Diseases

The retina is the innermost shell of the eye that is responsible for the perception of light and its transformation into a clear image. Retinal detachment is a condition where the retina is removed from its normal position. This leads to a lack of blood supply to the retina and the loss of its function, which is accompanied by a sharp reduction to loss of vision.

Three are the main reasons for retinal detachment:

Retromagnetic retinal detachment.

This is the most common type of retinal detachment and usually occurs when there is detachment of the vitreous, accompanied by a rupture of the retina. The very rupture of the retina allows the liquid vitreous body to pass under it and to peel it off. That’s why it is very important to have an ophthalmologist as soon as possible in the presence of symptoms of peeling the vitreous.

Extractive retinal detachment.

It is due to leakage of fluid under the retina, without rupture. The most common cause is macular degeneration associated with age, tumors and inflammatory processes.

Retinal detachment of the retina.

It is due to pulling the retina, usually from fibrous tissue formed inside the vitreous.
The most common cause of this type of detachment is proliferative diabetic retinopathy.

Risk factors for retinal detachment

Severe myopia
Mechanical trauma to the eye or head
Previous retinal detachments of the other eye
Weight lifting, stroke, concussion of the body
As a complication following a cataract surgery
Symptoms warning of retinal detachment

Flashes in the field of vision, especially when they are several after each other / flashing lightning /
The appearance of blobs and blobs in the field of vision, which are also visible with closed eyes
Abrupt reduction or loss of vision
Gray blurred “curtain” in the field
Diagnostics

The most commonly used method is a view of the ophthalmic bottom and ophthalmoscopy. This determines the degree of detachment of the retina and its condition. An ultrasound examination of the eye, which determines the condition of the vitreous and the exact amount of retinal detachment, is also done.

Treatment

It is only surgical. There are currently two types of surgical interventions: external with sclera filling and vitrectomy.
