Laser Trabeculoplasty

Laser trabeculoplasty (LT) is a procedure used in various types of open-angle glaucoma to reduce intraocular pressure. The procedure is applied when the drop treatment is insufficient to achieve optimal intraocular pressure. Laser trabeculoplasty can also be used as a primary procedure in patients with contraindications for the use of drops or non-co-operative patients or the opportunity to put them. In this procedure, the ophthalmologist directs the laser beam to the trabecular apparatus in the anterior chamber angle, where the aqueous liquid flows out. The aim is to increase the flow of the aqueous humor, and hence lower the intraocular pressure. In most cases, 180 degrees of the camera angle are treated, typically between 40 and 80 laser coagulations.
